1. Descriptions:
Nowadays, polyacrylamide and modified starch are widely used as retention aid and filter aid in paper making. But it works only so far. They may cause excessive fiber condensation while improving water filtration, thereby reducing page uniformity and strength.Many starch molecules form a helical structure, while guar molecules form a linear structure. Therefore, the active groups of guar are more accessible to fibers than cationic starch, and only a small amount of cationic guar gum can be used to achieve the effect that a larger amount of cationic starch can achieve.
The chemically modified guar can maintain or improve the evenness of the paper while improving the water drainage of the paper; it can further improve the water drainage by adsorbing fine fibers and particles, and at the same time improve the primary retention rate.
The effectiveness of cationic guar is primarily determined by its affinity for fibers. Given this, cationic guar can still function effectively in the presence of black liquor.
